You set bold goals at the start of the year. Your leaders set a company-wide revenue goal and each team has goals to contribute to it. To make it trackable and achievable, you break them down into quarterly or monthly targets.

Your planning is done, and everyone’s excited. But by month three, you don’t know if you’re trending in the right direction or off-track. Your goals are buried in spreadsheets, forgotten in meetings, and difficult to track. Sound familiar?

If you want to hit your goals, you need a better way to track and manage them – so you can keep your teams focused, aligned, and accountable.

With our new and improved Goals feature, you can set, track, and manage any goal in your company—while giving your team the visibility they need to stay focused, aligned, and working toward what matters most.

Keep your team aligned, motivated, and on track

Your leadership team sets company-wide goals. Managers define team-specific targets. Individual contributors execute the daily work that moves the company forward. With the new Goals, you can:

  • Track progress toward any objective: Create manual goals to track the performance of key projects or initiatives and monitor progress over time.
  • Drive growth: Set ambitious yet achievable goals using forecast and benchmark values to motivate your team and support continuous improvement.
  • Improve visibility and accountability: Make goals accessible to the entire team so everyone knows what they’re working toward and how their work contributes to broader company objectives.

Create custom Goals

Now, when creating goals in Databox, you can choose between two different goal types: automatic and manual.

Automatic Goals

Automatic goals let you set goals using the metrics you’re already tracking in our account. This means that as your data updates, your goal progress will adjust automatically without any extra work.

This feature has always been part of Databox, but now it’s more flexible and powerful than ever. Here’s what’s new:

View goal recommendations

When setting your goal value, you’ll now see historical data, forecasts, and benchmark values all in one place. These insights give you a better reference point, helping you set more realistic goals based on past performance and future trends.

Add a goal end-date

Now, you can set an end date for your goal, making it easier to track progress within a specific timeframe.

For example, if you’re running a marketing campaign that ends on April 5th, simply set that as your goal deadline to ensure your tracking stays aligned with your timeline.

Automatically track goals across all timeframes

Before, when creating a goal, you had to manually choose which granulation (daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly) you wanted to track. Now, Databox automatically calculates all granulations for you!

And that’s not all! We’ve also improved our Advanced Setup pop-up, making it easier to adjust your goals whenever needed. Now, you can quickly update targets and granulations, and recalculate values across all periods with just a click.

Heads up: Our new method of calculating goal values provides a more consistent and accurate way to track progress across all timeframes. As a result of this improvement, you may notice slight changes in how your existing goals appear when viewed on a chart in your Databoard (e.g., a “This Year” goal might now display adjusted monthly values).

Stay on track with improved notifications

Now, you can choose if you want to receive weekly, monthly, or quarterly status updates, making it easier to stay on top of your goal progress. Want to keep other stakeholders in the loop? You can now add anyone to goal notifications, even if they don’t have a Databox account.

Heads up: If your goal was set up to send notifications based on progress at 70% of the timeframe (e.g., alert me my goal probably won’t be hit), you will now receive notifications whenever your goal status changes. This means you’ll be notified when we detect your goal is off track or on track, so you can take action sooner.

Create more than one goal for a single metric

And finally, you can now create multiple goals for the same metric, giving you more flexibility in how you track success.

For example, you might set a realistic goal based on expected performance. Or a stretch goal to challenge your team and drive long-term growth.

Manual Goals

The new Manual Goals let you set targets by manually entering numbers, percentages, or currency values, making them perfect for tracking projects, initiatives, or custom objectives.

Since these goals aren’t tied to a specific metric, you’ll need to review and update progress manually. Let’s take a look at how you can update and manage your manual goals.

Track and update your goal progress

Once you’ve created your manual goal, you can easily update the progress by entering your current value, updating the goal status to on-track or off-track, and adding notes to provide context and keep your team informed.

Get notified when it’s time to update your goal

To help you keep your goals up to date, you can set automatic reminders when creating a Manual Goal. Choose how often you’d like to be reminded to update your progress and decide whether your updates should be sent only to you or shared with other stakeholders.

Control who can view your goals

Now, you have full control over who can view your goals. Both manual and automatic goals allow you to choose from three privacy settings: public, selected users, or private.

Set your goal as public so all users can view its progress. Choose selected users if you want to share your goal with a few members of your team. Or, set it to private if you don’t want anyone to be able to view your goal.

Heads up: If a goal is set to public, only users with access to the data source and metric will be able to view it. Choosing selected users will allow them to view the goal, even if they don’t have access to the data source.

View your team’s goals in one place

We’ve redesigned the My Goals page to make it easier for you to see what others are tracking and stay aligned with your team.

Now, at the top of the page, you’ll see all the goals you’re tracking, helping you stay focused on your progress. At the bottom, you can view the goals your teammates are tracking or those that have been shared with you. And soon, you’ll be able to add goals to your team spaces so you can keep your entire team focused on the target.

Heads up: After this update, all goals on the Goals page will be migrated to the “This month” date range. Furthermore, you’ll only see goals in your My Goals section if you own them or you are tracking them on your home screen. To add a goal to your My Goals page, simply go to the “More” menu in the Goals section and select the ones you want to track.
