Not all tech journeys start with a computer science degree or years of startup experience.

For Promise Ewiwilem, our Principal Sales Development Representative, it started with a long commute and a dream to break into SaaS. Just three years later, he is now one of Databox’s top-performing Sales Development Representatives, who was named “champion of the quarter” three times.

Keep reading to learn how Promise developed his career by using self-belief, adaptability, and the power of great support.

    From Banking to Sales Development

Before Databox, Promise worked in the banking sector, but has always been drawn to the fast pace of the tech world. A friend introduced him to Databox, and the idea of breaking into SaaS paired with remote work sealed the deal for him.

    Learning Fast, Growing Faster

After joining Databox and transitioning industries, it didn’t take long for Promise to thrive.

“Coming from banking, I had to learn everything from scratch. But that’s the beauty of SaaS, it rewards curiosity. Be open to learning, ask questions, and don’t be afraid of change.”

He first started on our Customer Support team, and after a few months, became one of the first members of the newly formed Business Development team that has since evolved into Sales Development. With that, his role has changed significantly. He went from answering support tickets to designing and executing sales development strategies that shape how Databox grows.

As a Sales Development Representative, his main responsibility is to identify and engage potential customers who could benefit from Databox. Promise does this by reaching out to prospects through various channels, learning about their challenges, and sparking interest in how our platform can help them make better, data-driven decisions. He is the bridge between marketing and sales, starting meaningful conversations that can lead to long-term partnerships.

When asked how he would explain his job to a 10-year-old, Promise answered,

Imagine your friend bakes great cookies and wants to open a shop. I’m the one who finds cookie lovers and invites them in.”

Finding his Footing and Raising the Bar

In the short 3 years at Databox, Promise has been named Quarterly Champion three times—a recognition awarded to Playmakers who go above and beyond, deliver outstanding results, and raise the bar, all while exemplifying the values we strive to uphold at Databox.

“I’ve experienced rapid growth, and I’m truly proud of my accomplishments. However, none of it would have been possible without the incredible support of my team and the empowering work environment that Databox has fostered.”

It’s people like Promise who help us build high-performing teams, which is why it’s important to recognize potential early. With the right guidance from managers and a collaborative, supportive environment, that potential can truly thrive.

A factor in Promise’s growth has also been our mentoring program, where we pair Databox mentors with individual contributors to enhance skills, support career growth, and strengthen team collaboration.

“I was fortunate to be mentored by Nikos Ntirlis, an expert in Partnerships. He helped me see Sales not just as selling, but as problem-solving. That shift helped me build stronger connections with prospects and value my own time more.”

    What Makes Databox Special?

For Promise, it’s not just the work or the KPIs, but the people.

“Everyone here is genuinely willing to help. The culture is collaborative and warm, and that makes the biggest difference. Even when it’s hard, it feels meaningful.”

When asked about his proudest accomplishments, Promise explained that adapting to change, co-developing processes that drive impact, and helping build the foundation of a now-thriving Sales Development team were things that he feels most proud of in his Databox journey.

“Being named the ‘champion of the quarter’ twice in one year felt incredible, but seeing how the processes we built helped the team scale is what I’m proudest of.”

His manager, Andrej Bačič, sees it too:

“Promise has consistently been a top performer. What makes him stand out is his communication—he adapts quickly, spots patterns, and stays focused on impact.”

    Final Takeaway

Promise’s story is proof that you don’t need a “traditional” SaaS background to succeed. All you need is the right mindset, the right support system, and a team that believes in your potential. At Databox, we’re building the kind of place where people like Promise thrive and where the next chapter is always full of possibilities.
