At Databox, the domain of team development, including leadership development, lies in the People and Culture team working closely with the core leadership team. With a focus on aligning these initiatives with the company’s current business goals and future requirements, we strive to create a comprehensive journey of growth and empowerment. Our mission is to drive this approach beyond traditional training programs, emphasizing the continuous development of leaders to meet the evolving needs of our organization.
At the most basic level, we identify and cultivate 6 key leadership principles and 13 leadership competencies that align with our vision to build high-performing teams and contribute to the overall success of the company. These competencies, such as effective communication, strategic thinking, talent development, and servant leadership, are aligned in three pillars: managing the organization, managing the team, and managing oneself, forming the foundation of our approach.
In addition to defining the leadership principles and competencies, the responsibilities for our VP, director, and manager roles are clearly defined. These specific People Managerial Roles emphasize the impact leaders have on the success of both the company and their team members. Meaning they are not only responsible for achieving business goals but also for cultivating an environment that enables their team members to thrive. They work collaboratively to meet performance expectations, provide support, and help individuals reach their full potential.
This is why all of the initiatives in this realm emphasize developing managerial skills and competencies and equipping the leadership team with the necessary tools to effectively manage their teams, align individual goals with the company’s objectives, and create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration.
Recognizing that effective leadership is key to driving organizational success, we have implemented a range of leadership development initiatives and programs. From targeted training workshops and seminars to personalized coaching sessions, we ensure that our leaders are equipped with both technical and soft skills.
One of our flagship programs led by our Head of the People and Culture team, Aljaž Godec, is “Drive Engagement Through Connection,” a leadership training program specifically designed for our first-line leaders. Through a combination of seminars, learning circles, and reflection sessions, participants delve into tools that help the members develop and effectively use our core leadership principles and competencies in their work. They gain insights into transformational leadership, relationship-building, coaching principles, and more. By fostering peer learning and providing practical application opportunities in everyday work, this program equips leaders to drive engagement and unleash the full potential of their teams.
We are also excited to announce the launch of our new Databox Leadership Competency Training program. Starting at the end of June, this comprehensive program will focus on developing 13 Databox leadership competencies starting with interpersonal communication. This program is led in collaboration with external partners and coaches.
Through a series of interactive workshops and learning sessions, our leaders will gain valuable insights and practical strategies to enhance their leadership skills in these key areas. This program is designed to equip leaders with the necessary tools to navigate complex challenges, inspire their teams, and drive the organization’s success.
In addition to these specialized programs, we regularly organize leadership training workshops, seminars, and various engaging development initiatives to foster continuous learning and personal growth. These initiatives include our Book Club, Podcast Club, and workshops centered around building 24 Databox competencies.
These events allow team members, including the leaders, to develop their skills further and learn new techniques that help them not only in their professional but also in personal development by covering various topics, including strategic thinking, communication, change management, and growth mindset principles.
Preparing for a leadership role is a journey that requires careful planning and a strategic mindset. At Databox, we are dedicated to empowering our Playmakers to take charge of their career paths through our robust career development framework, supported by personalized career development plans (PCDPs). Meaning we provide a clear roadmap for individuals aspiring to become managers or team leads. This framework guides all of the team members in identifying their career paths, setting goals, and charting a course for growth and advancement.
Twice per year, our entire team, including the leadership, engages in a Performance Management and Career Development process that serves as the foundation for creating and updating PCDPs. These plans are designed to outline each employee’s career aspirations, development goals, and the necessary steps to achieve them. By aligning these plans with our company’s mission, goals, and business objectives, we ensure that individual growth journeys contribute to the overall success of the company.
The cornerstone of these career advancements lies in our career development framework, which encompasses both horizontal and vertical paths. The latter provides those with managerial ambitions a clear guideline on the skills, competencies, and experiences required to advance and the necessary steps to reach their desired career destinations. Of course, it is important to note that career progressions within Databox are always aligned with our business goals, forecasts, and future needs. As we grow and evolve as an organization, we strive to identify and develop the talent needed to drive our success in the long term.
